What is brachioplasty and cruroplasty?
Aging or significant weight loss can lead to severe skin sagging or the appearance of what is known as "sagging skin". The areas most often affected in men and women are the arms, legs, and abdomen. The solution is usually surgical, removing the excess skin, and is called: brachioplasty or arm lift, cruroplasty or thigh lift, and abdominoplasty for the abdomen.
They are surgical techniques by which excess skin and fat is removed from the inner arms (brachioplasty) and/or inner thighs (cruroplasty). The objective is to remodel and improve the body contour, obtaining firmer and more stylized arms and thighs.
What does the surgery involve?
In brachioplasty (arm lift), for the resection of excess skin, it is necessary to make a scar from the armpit to the elbow, on the internal face of the arm to reduce its visibility.
In cruroplasty (thigh lift) the technique used depends on the excess skin and the degree of flaccidity. It can be performed through an incision in the groin fold and inner thigh, when the problem affects only the inner side. While sometimes, when the excess skin affects the entire contour of the thigh, it will require a circumferential scar.
To improve the result and achieve better harmony in the body contour, it is common to combine either of these two techniques with liposuction.
At Clínica Ángela Ojeda we have the UrgoTouch laser system, which induces a controlled increase in the temperature of the skin, modulating an inflammatory reaction and promoting the harmonious synthesis of a collagen network, improving the final result of the scar.
Dr. Ojeda will be the one who evaluates each case individually, analyzing its anatomical characteristics and the amount of skin to be resected. Only then we will be able to recommend the type of procedure with which we are going to fulfill your desires and expectations, obtaining satisfactory and lasting results.
At Clínica Ángela Ojeda we always guarantee the greatest security when carrying out all interventions. For that reason in the preoperative consultation we carry out:
All these tests will be evaluated by one of the specialists in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation who are part of the team, who will indicate if your health condition is optimal to carry out the intervention with total safety and guarantees.
How long does the surgery take?
In order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the patient, the interventions are always performed in the hospital, in optimal conditions of hygiene and sterility.
The surgical procedure has an estimated duration of 2 - 3 hours, depending on the technique and whether liposuction is associated.
The anesthesia used is usually general, although in certain cases it can be done with epidural anesthesia. The time of admission to the hospital where we perform the intervention is 24 hours.
What is recovery like after an arm or leg lift?
The first days
After the intervention a compressive elastic garment will be worn. The objective is to control the swelling and help the skin to readapt to the new silhouette; and you will have to maintain it for approximately 1 month. The morning after the operation we will make the first cure. It will be Dr. Ojeda personally who will evaluate that everything is within the foreseen thing.
During the first days it is normal to have some discomfort, with a feeling of heaviness due to the swelling. For it we will take care to guide the necessary analgesia, which together with the relative rest, they will manage to control the above mentioned annoyances.
From the first day we will recommend short walks to encourage the reabsorption of the edema (swelling) by stimulating lymphatic and venous circulation. It is normal to present a loss of sensitivity, with a sensation of corkiness, in the operated area; this will be progressively recovered.
After about 7 days after
After about 7 days after the operation, you will be able to lead a more or less normal life and return to work, with certain limitations on effort. Non-impact sports can be resumed progressively from the 4th week onwards, always with the consent of your surgeon. The desired aspect is not evident right after the surgery; you will have to wait approximately 4 - 6 weeks for the swelling to go down and the definitive results will be progressively verified.
All cures and check-ups will be performed by professionals who are part of our medical team. To guarantee the quality of the result, we individualize each post-operative process with personalized indications. Therefore, we consider it essential for a correct recovery and excellent results to follow the guidelines set by both the doctor and her team.
