What are Bichat Bags?
One of today's beauty ideals is a harmonized face with greater definition in the cheekbone area. The extraction of bichat balls is a relatively simple operation that allows to improve the facial contour, to define the zone of the cheekbones and to give sensation of more triangular face.
Bichat bags or oral fat bags are fat accumulations located between the cheeks and the lower 1/3 of the face; therefore, in larger cases they can give the sensation of a rounded face. With their resection we manage to highlight the cheekbones, refine the face and provide more harmony to the facial contour. It does not produce a radical change, but a subtle and natural result.
These fat pads are involutive; that is, they have no specific function in our body. Likewise, their resection does not imply a faster aging or a fall of the tissues because they do not contribute to their support.
What does the surgery involve?
The bichectomy is performed through a 1cm incision inside the oral cavity, without leaving any visible scar.
In order to guarantee the patient's safety and well-being, the interventions are always performed in the hospital, under optimal conditions of hygiene and sterility.
The surgery lasts about 30mins and is performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis; that is, you will be discharged shortly after the intervention.
How is the recovery after the bichectomy?
After the surgery you will normally have no discomfort, just a slight swelling of the cheeks during the first 24 hours. We will recommend mouthwashes with a specific antiseptic and you will be able to go back to work in approximately 48 hours.
The definitive result is not immediate, it will appear progressively and will become evident around the 3rd month.
