What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is defined as the increase of breast tissue (fat and/or gland) in the male; it can affect one or both breasts.
There are multiple causes that may justify the origin of gynecomastia: hormonal changes, the intake of certain medications or the presence of some diseases; however, in most cases the origin is unknown (idiopathic).
What does gynecomastia surgery involve?
It is a procedure in which excess fat and/or gland is removed; in some cases, depending on the associated skin flaccidity, it is combined with the resection of excess skin. The objective is to achieve a firm and flat chest, recovering a harmonic body contour.

How long does the surgery take?
In order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the patient, the interventions are always performed in the hospital, in optimal conditions of hygiene and sterility.
The surgical procedure has an estimated duration of 1 - 2 hours, depending on the technique.
The anesthesia used is usually general or local and sedation. The time of admission to the hospital where we perform the intervention is variable depending on the case, it can be ambulatory or 24 hours admission.
How is the recovery after gynecomastia surgery?
During the first days it is normal to have some discomfort, with a feeling of heaviness or aches. We will arrange for the necessary analgesia, which, together with relative rest, will manage to control such discomfort. After the operation you should not carry weight or make intense efforts.

From the first day we recommend taking short walks. It is normal to present a loss of sensitivity, with a corking sensation, in the operated area; it will be recovered progressively.

A few days after the operation, you will be able to lead a more or less normal life and return to work, with certain limitations on effort. Non-impact sports can be resumed progressively from the 3rd week onwards, always with the consent of your surgeon.
