What is liposuction?

Liposuction or liposculpture is a surgical procedure by which fat deposits located in certain areas of the body (abdomen, thighs, hips, knees, arms...) are removed through a process of aspiration with the aim of remodeling and improving the silhouette. It can be used alone or as a technique associated with other body contouring surgeries.

It is an intervention that gives great satisfaction to patients, since its results are definitive if you continue with a healthy diet and some exercise.

What does liposuction surgery involve?

Cannulas are used to remove localised fat deposits by means of which adipocytes (fat cells) are mechanically separated and then sucked out and removed.

After the liposuction no visible scars are left since the incisions through which the cannulas are approached are very small, about 3mm.

It can be combined with another technique called lipofilling, which consists in using part of the fat tissue extracted during the liposuction, to infiltrate it in areas where you want to achieve an increase in volume (eg: buttocks). Combining these techniques we manage to remodel the body contour, obtaining a more harmonic silhouette.

When is liposuction recommended?

The best results are obtained in those people with localized fat deposits, generally resistant to diet and exercise; and with good or moderate skin quality.

It is essential to achieve a correct balance between the fat we extract and the skin's capacity to readapt to the vacuum generated, so that there are no areas of excess skin (hanging skin). When there is skin flaccidity and little elasticity such readaptation is worse and it may be necessary to associate other surgical procedures.

Dr. Ojeda will be the one who evaluates in an individual way each case, analyzing the characteristics of the excess of fat, as well as the tone and firmness of the skin. Only then we will be able to recommend the technique, or combination of them, with which we are going to fulfill your desires and expectations, obtaining satisfactory and lasting results.

What areas can be treated with liposuction?

Dewlap (submental area)

Breast: breast tail in women, gynecomastia in men.

Abdomen, Hip, flanks, waist.

Back y Arms

Legs: Thighs, Knees, Ankles

Pre-operative study

At Clínica Ángela Ojeda we always guarantee the greatest security when carrying out all interventions. For that reason in the preoperative consultation we carry out:

Detailed clinical history and physical exploration, with personal antecedents and previous pathologies.

Analytical conventional with study of coagulation.

Chest X-ray, sometimes required.

In addition, when it comes to abdominal liposuction, in certain cases imaging tests may be requested to assess the existence of hernias.

All these tests will be assessed by one of the specialists in Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation who are part of the team, who will indicate whether your state of health is optimal for carrying out the intervention with total safety and guarantees.

How long does the surgery take?

In order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the patient, the interventions are always performed in the hospital, in optimal conditions of hygiene and sterility.

The surgical procedure has an estimated duration of 1-4 hours, depending on the body areas to be treated.

The anesthesia used depends on the location and extent of the areas to be treated. It can be local anesthesia and sedation, epidural or general anesthesia. The time of admission to the hospital where we perform the intervention varies depending on the areas treated; from outpatient to 24 hours.

How is the recovery after a liposuction?

After the intervention, a compressive elastic garment, such as a girdle, will be placed on the body area where the liposuction was performed. The objective is to control the swelling and help the skin to readapt to the new silhouette; and it will have to be maintained for approximately 1 month.

The first morning

During the first few days it is normal to have some discomfort, with a burning sensation or heaviness due to the swelling (from the liquids administered) and some bruising in the areas of liposuction. We will arrange for the necessary analgesia, which, together with relative rest, will manage to control such discomfort.

All cures and check-ups will be carried out by professionals who are part of our medical team. The desired aspect is not evident right after the surgery, you will have to wait approximately 1 month for the swelling to go down and the definitive results will be progressively verified.

To guarantee the quality of the result, we individualize each post-operative process with personalized indications. Therefore, we consider it essential for a correct recovery and excellent results, to follow the guidelines set by both the doctor and her team.

The first days

From the first day we will recommend walks to facilitate the reabsorption of the edema (swelling) by stimulating lymphatic and venous circulation. 3-4 days after the operation, you will be able to lead a more or less normal life and return to work, with certain limitations on effort. Non-impact sports can be resumed progressively from the 3rd week onwards, always with the consent of your surgeon.

How much does a liposuction cost?

The price of liposuction depends on the technique used and the areas to be treated, which varies according to the wishes and anatomical characteristics of each patient. Therefore, at Clínica Ángela Ojeda we will provide you with an individualized budget according to your needs, please contact us.
