What are tuberous breasts?
Tuberous or tubular breasts are a congenital alteration of the breast that is produced by an alteration in the development of the breast. They are characterized by a conical or tubular shape, generated by the insufficient development of the lower region of the breast with a certain degree of breast ptosis and areola herniation. This situation usually produces a distension of the areolas and asymmetry of the breasts, which can produce a significant degree of dissatisfaction and alteration of self-esteem.
The general characteristics of tuberous breasts are the following, although they do not necessarily have to be present all at once:
- Insufficient development in the lower/lateral area of the breast
- Conical shape
- Dilated areolas
- Increased distance between both breasts
- Breast asymmetry
There are different degrees of tuberous breast, and these alterations may occur to a greater or lesser degree.
What does tuberous breast surgery involve?
The surgical options for the correction of tuberous breasts are multiple and depend on the degree and alterations that exist.
Dr. Ojeda will be the one who evaluates each case individually, analyzing the anatomical characteristics and form of your breasts. Only then we will be able to recommend the type of ideal procedure with which we are going to fulfill your desires and expectations, obtaining natural and lasting results.
How long does the surgery take?
In order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the patient, the interventions are always performed in the hospital, in optimal conditions of hygiene and sterility.
The surgical procedure has an estimated duration of 1-3 hours. The anesthesia used is general and the time of admission to the hospital where we perform the intervention is 24 hours.
How is the recovery from tuberous breast surgery?
The first hour
After the intervention, a compressive elastic bandage will be placed to improve the comfort of patients in the immediate postoperative period. The morning after the intervention we will make the first cure. It will be Dr. Ojeda personally who will assess that everything is within the foreseen and will place a specific bra, which will have to maintain for approximately 1 month.
The first 24-48 hours
During the first 24-48 hours it is normal to have some discomfort, with a feeling of pressure in the chest and moderate pain. For this we will take care of scheduling the necessary analgesia, which together with relative rest, will manage to control such discomfort.
All cures and check-ups will be carried out by professionals who are part of our medical team. Initially the scars will be pink, but they will progressively improve from the 6th week onwards.
To guarantee the quality of the result, we individualize each post-operative process with personalized indications. Therefore, we consider it essential for a correct recovery and excellent results, to follow the guidelines set by both the doctor and her team.
The first 3-4 days
After 3-4 days after the operation, you will be able to lead a more or less normal life and return to your work activity, with certain effort limitations. Non-impact sports can be resumed progressively from the 3rd week onwards, always with the consent of your surgeon.
